Executed in accordance with international maritime and port waste management standards, this project aimed to treat highly contaminated oily wastewater (bilge water) accumulated in ship engine rooms and hulls, adhering to the most stringent environmental regulations.
The project represents more than a wastewater treatment operation; it is a sustainable resource management model that extracts the valuable oil phase with high purity from hazardous marine wastes, reintroducing it into the economy.
Technical Process and Separation Engineering
Bilge water originating from vessels exhibits a complex composition consisting of free and emulsified oils, seawater, and heavy solids:
Precision Multi-Phase Separation: Operating under high centrifugal force, our advanced decanter technology continuously processes heterogeneous bilge water, cleanly fractionating solid cake, water, and oil phases from one another.
High-Purity Oil Extraction: The recovered oil phase achieves a level of purity free from water and solid impurities, enabling its circular re-utilization as fuel or raw material.
Compliant Discharge Water Quality: Fully clarified of oil and suspended solid particles, the water phase is brought below the strict ppm threshold limits set by international marine and environmental protection directives, ensuring safe effluent discharge.
Key Deliverables and Added Value
Full Compliance with Strict Environmental Inspections: Treatment performance fully aligned with regulations was achieved, smoothly passing the most stringent environmental and marine pollution audits in international ports.
Economic Added Value: Highly purified oil with significant commercial value was recovered from bilge sludge—typically regarded as hazardous waste—effectively offsetting the facility's operational expenses.
Global Maritime Expertise: Our capability to deliver solutions compliant with international standards in marine and port waste management has been proven once again.
